Most Wix sites I’m asked to replace were built by their owners, often in a weekend, from a template. That’s a fair way to start. The trouble shows up later: the design can’t change without a rebuild, the pages feel slow, and the site no longer matches the price of the service it sells.
I’m a certified Framer Expert, so I have a side in this. I’ll still point out when Wix is the right place to stay. Below is how I move a Wix or Wix Studio site to Framer, what happens to your domain, and what it costs.
In short: a Wix site can’t be exported to Framer, so the design is rebuilt and the content is moved: pages, blog posts, images and forms. A complete service website takes 2 to 3 weeks. Each old Wix address gets a 301 redirect to protect your rankings, and a domain bought from Wix can stay at Wix, with its DNS records pointed to Framer.
Wix vs Framer: before and after the move
| What changes | Before (Wix) | After (Framer) |
|---|---|---|
| Editor | Drag and drop, easy to break on mobile | Visual editor, content edited without touching the layout |
| Changing the design | No template switch once live (classic Editor) | Section by section, at any time |
| Blog | Wix Blog, posts under /post/ | Framer CMS, same addresses possible |
| Booking | Wix Bookings | Your booking tool, linked or embedded |
| Store | Wix Stores | Shopify, connected to Framer |
| SEO settings | Built in | Built in, plus redirects on the Pro plan |
| Domain | Bought from Wix or elsewhere | Same domain, DNS pointed to Framer |
| Plan price | About $17 to $40 a month, billed yearly | $10 or $30 a month, billed yearly |
Prices are as of November 2026. Wix prices vary by country, so check the Wix plans page for yours.
How long does it take to move from Wix to Framer?
Two to three weeks for a complete service website, and your Wix site stays live the whole time. Here’s the order I work in:
- First days, the inventory. I list every page and post of the Wix site with its address, title and description, and check in Google Search Console which pages bring visits.
- Week 1, the design. I design the homepage first. You approve the direction before anything else is built.
- Week 2, the build. Pages are built in Framer, posts and images go into the CMS, and forms are rebuilt.
- Week 3, the switch. Redirects are set, every page is tested on phone and desktop, the domain is pointed to Framer and the sitemap is submitted to Google.
A large store, a members’ area or hundreds of posts take longer, and I tell you before we start.
Can you transfer a Wix site to Framer automatically?
No. Wix has no button that exports a site to another platform, and Framer has no official Wix importer. The layout is rebuilt in Framer, which is usually the point of the move anyway: you’re leaving Wix because the design has become a box.
The content is a different story. Framer’s CMS imports CSV files, so blog posts are gathered into one file and imported in one go. A long blog doesn’t mean weeks of copy and paste.
What comes with you, and what stays on Wix
Your words, images and addresses come with you. The Wix apps stay behind and get replaced.
- Pages: rebuilt in Framer, with your text or new copy.
- Blog posts: moved into the Framer CMS with their slugs, so a post keeps the same address wherever possible.
- Images: taken from your Wix media and uploaded to Framer, which optimizes them on its own.
- Titles and descriptions: copied page by page from the Wix SEO settings.
- Forms: rebuilt with Framer’s native forms, or embedded from the tool you already use.
What gets replaced:
- Wix Bookings: replaced by a booking tool such as Calendly, Acuity or Cal.com, linked from a button or embedded on the page.
- Wix Stores: a real store moves to Shopify, connected to the Framer site.
- Member areas and online programs: better served by a dedicated platform like Kajabi.
- Wix apps: each one gets a Framer equivalent, an embed, or is dropped.
How do you keep your Google rankings when leaving Wix?
You keep them by giving every old address a new home that Google can follow.
- Keep the addresses that already work. Wix blog posts live under /post/. Framer lets me choose the path of a CMS collection, so /post/your-article can stay /post/your-article.
- Redirect the rest. Wix sites sometimes carry leftover page addresses, like /blank-1 or /copy-of-services. Each one gets a 301 redirect to its new page.
- Carry over titles and descriptions, or improve the weak ones.
- Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console on launch day, then watch for errors.
One practical point: as of November 2026, site redirects are part of Framer’s Pro plan, not Basic. If Google sends your Wix site real visits, plan for Pro.
Connecting your Wix domain to Framer
You don’t have to move your domain. If you bought it from Wix, it can stay registered there: you point it to Framer by changing its DNS records in your Wix account.
- In Framer, add your domain to the site. Framer shows the records to set.
- In Wix, open your domains, then Manage DNS Records for that domain.
- Replace the A record and the CNAME record with the values Framer gave you, and remove any old ones that conflict.
- Leave your email records alone. If your inbox runs on the same domain, it keeps working.
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone, so the Wix site stays in place until then. If your domain was bought elsewhere (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare), the steps are the same, at that registrar.
Should you transfer your domain from Wix to Framer?
It’s optional, and it can wait. Framer hosts websites; your domain can stay at any registrar. If you want to leave Wix completely, you can transfer the domain to another registrar after launch. Keep in mind that ICANN rules block a transfer within 60 days of registering the domain, changing its owner contact or a previous transfer. Before you cancel your Wix plan, check that the domain’s renewal stays active in your Wix account.
Moving from Wix Studio to Framer
The process is the same. Wix Studio gives designers more layout control than the classic Editor, but its sites don’t export either, so the design is rebuilt in Framer. If an agency built your site on Wix Studio, get access to the site and the domain before we start. I compare the two tools in Framer vs Wix.
How much does a Wix to Framer migration cost?
A complete website starts at $1,500 USD, and a redesign costs the same. Rebuilding the pages, moving the posts and images and setting the redirects are part of that price. Payment goes through Contra, 30% upfront. You’ll find what’s included on my pricing page.
Then comes the Framer plan, paid by you, in your own account. As of November 2026, Framer’s pricing starts at $10 a month for Basic (30 pages, 1,000 CMS items) and $30 a month for Pro (150 pages, 2,500 CMS items, redirects), billed yearly. A second language is $20 per locale. I explain every plan in Framer pricing, explained.
When staying on Wix is the better choice
- Your bookings, payments and client accounts all run through Wix and your clients are used to them.
- You sell many products with Wix Stores and don’t want to move to Shopify.
- You enjoy building the site yourself and the design still fits your business.
- Your budget doesn’t allow a designer right now.
Framer being popular isn’t a reason to move. A website that no longer brings in clients is.
What I’ve moved before
I don’t have a Wix case study to show you yet, and I won’t pretend I do. What I can show is the method. When Madame Labriski left WordPress, more than 1,000 pieces of content (recipes, articles, podcasts, videos, products) moved to one Framer website without losing anything (see the case study). A Wix move follows the same steps.
My advice, in one sentence
If your Wix site has become a template you can’t grow out of, rebuild it in Framer with a redirect for every old address and keep your domain where it is; if Wix runs your bookings, store and members smoothly, stay. If you’re a coach, start with what a coach’s website needs to do.
FAQ
Can I import my Wix site into Framer?
Not the design. Wix doesn’t export sites and Framer has no official Wix importer, so the layout is rebuilt in Framer. Your content moves: blog posts can be imported into the Framer CMS from a CSV file, and images, titles and descriptions are carried over page by page.
How do I connect my Wix domain to Framer?
Add the domain in Framer to get its records. Then, in your Wix account, open Manage DNS Records for the domain and replace the A and CNAME records with Framer’s values. Leave your email records as they are. Changes can take up to 48 hours.
Do I need to transfer my domain from Wix to Framer?
No. The domain can stay registered at Wix and point to Framer. If you want to leave Wix entirely, transfer it to another registrar later, keeping in mind ICANN’s 60-day lock after a registration, a contact change or a previous transfer.
Will I lose my SEO moving from Wix to Framer?
Not if every old address is handled. Blog posts can keep their /post/ addresses, other pages get 301 redirects, and titles and descriptions are carried over. Redirects are part of Framer’s Pro plan as of November 2026, so plan for Pro if Google sends you visits.
Is moving from Wix Studio to Framer different?
Not really. Wix Studio sites don’t export either, so the design is rebuilt in Framer and the content, redirects and domain are handled the same way. Make sure you have access to the Wix Studio site and the domain before the move starts.
